After lunch at Sunrise lakes, we head down mountain toward the day's main objective, Clouds Rest. At the valley in between Sunrise Lakes and Clouds Rest there are several streams. Our next camp is dry so the group stops here to tank up and filter water for the remainder of the day.
The good news is the streams are still running strongly this late in the year. The bad news is we are facing a 1,000ft climb to Clouds Rest and water weighs in at 8lbs per gallon.
From left to right are Brett Phillips, Andrew Carver, Sue Feldman, and Kurt Kremer. I think Martha is hidden by Brett's mass if you look closely. The pine forest was very dense here. We also started to encounter day hikers coming in from Tanaya Lake heading for Clouds Rest. Most of the poor schmucks never made it.
