Just after the previous picture was taken (Sue and Brett near tent), we heard a rustling in the woods.  Sue spotted it first and knew exactly what to do.  She grabbed her camera and charged right after the bear!  Got within 30ft or so and snapped this picture.  Unfortunately, the disposable camera's flash is only good for 10ft or so.  However, you can still make out one of the largest bears I've seen in Yosemite, centered in the picture.  It is standing up on its hind legs facing us.  Good thing Sue didn't get any closer,... it turned out to be a mother shepherding two cubs!

All during the encounter we were yelling for Serge, Adriana, Martha, Andrew and John Hart who had parked their tent about 50yds north of the action.   Adriana in particular was skeptical that we'd see any of the aforementioned wild life.  The dopes ignored us!  Thought we were yelling wolf, as the fairy tale goes.  The bear had already moved off by the time we got their attention and they believed our story... Too late!

Anyway, my hunch was she (the bear) was just casing the place and would be back in the wee hours of the morning... I was right.  At 2:30A sharp she entered our camp site and began inspecting Hal's food sack hanging over their tent... real smart, Hal.  JD and I watched the action through the mosquito net of our tent, yelled for Hal and T. Boldt, and at the bear.  (Note: The wilderness guide book tells you to make noise but I wouldn't depend on it to chase these intruders away.  You know what they say about where big bears in the woods can sit...).  Once again Serge and the crew thought we were faking it and ignored us.  Meanwhile the bear sniffed the perimeter of Tom and Hal's tent (with them inside) and finally moved off.

The next morning, Tom reported the bear sounded more like Darth Vadar when it circumnavigated their tent than a benign beast just passing through.   Proof was also discovered that the bear had visited the mondo condo tent where the doubters slept.  Andrew's sipping whisky flask had bear teeth marks in it.   Fortunately, the booze had already been consumed.
