This is one's first view of Half Dome since coming down the trail from Clouds Rest the night before.  We are about two miles form camp and a mile or so from Half Dome.  You can clearly see the shoulder (right above Kurt's head) with the main "rock" immediately behind it. 

The two points you see sticking out of Half Dome's face will figure in several of the most spectacular photographs you'll see here.  Remember them and proceed...!
