You would think that anything after Half Dome would have to
be an anticlimax. Well there are still a few spectacular things to do and see on the
agenda.
We broke camp at our usual time around 9AM. The temp
was decidedly warmer since we were living at 3000ft below previous camp altitudes.
Now class, remember your physics. The adiabatic temperature variation with changing
pressure works out to 3deg F per 1,000ft. That's some 15deg warmer. What it
means is we didn't have to kick snow off the tent or crack ice to get water. Even
the low temps we experienced weren't that bad... really they weren't. No really...
The trail is now well traveled by all manor and make of
touristo. Most are ill prepared for the climb up from the Valley and wind up
exhausted and disappointed. We, on the other hand, are well prepared... and smart...
for we are descending, not going upward! Remember your physics... Naaaaah, on second
thought, screw the physics. Let's get on with our travels where ahead of us are two
very spectacular waterfalls and a last look at Yosemite from several roadside vantage
points as we head home.
