| Andrew and John are looking down into a particularly deep vertical shaft
in the Last Chance mine. There is a ladder but none of us screwed up the courage to test
its strength. The cross beam John is leaning on no doubt held a block and tackle
arrangement for raising the ore. How would you like to be the guy at the bottom breaking
rocks in a confined, dust choked environment? The Last Chance mine is located on the trail down from Horseshoe Mesa to Miners' Spring, our nearest water source. Miners' Spring is 750ft below Horseshoe and the mine entrance is about 500ft down. It's well worth the visit. Kind of motivates you to stay in school like your parents told you. |
