Finally we made it to the top of the butte crowning Horseshoe Mesa. From this vantage point, you can see up and down the East-West Canyon and parts of the Colorado river channel. Also significant in this picture is the wall directly above John's hat (middle)... Yep, you guessed it, that is one of our objectives for later TODAY!! Again, the guide book suggested it was possible but provided no details. We surveyed the face with binoculars and settled on three possible routes. Conquering the butte on which we are standing was just a warm-up! Real hair raising excitement awaits in the distance...

Note: Don Z., those are the Pentax binoculars you gave me for Xmas around John's neck. They really came in handy. All who used them raved about the quality of image captured. This is only the inaugural outing. There will be many more. Thanks a bunch.
