| Next stop after entering the park was the Visitors' Center where last minute supplies were purchased along with a last civilized meal before descending into the Canyon. Between the Visitors' Center and Grandview Point trailhead some 12 miles to the East is this popular overlook (sorry, I can't remember the name). English speaker were in the minority when we passed through. Several bus loads of Orientals were taking pictures of each other... I 'think' they were able to include some of the Canyon in their self portraits but I'm not sure. Many seemed to be preoccupied reading instruction manuals explaining the operational characteristics of cameras with more buttons than a space launch facility. Anyway, for the first time visitor, this is truly a spectacular introduction to the Canyon. I'm sure Mr. Kremer will attest. The view is North across the Canyon from our location on the South Rim. The visitor can see several 10's of miles up and down the Canyon's length. To the right about 10 miles is our takeoff spot, Grandview Point. |
