At this point, we have made it around the mesa and are part way into the next canyon, moving toward our climbing objective... the Redwall.  One of these days, I'm going to figure out how to take a picture that captures the steepness of the terrain.  Guess I need more practice because this section is pretty steep already.  Maybe when we get to the point where it requires us to use all fours in order to make forward progress, it will become more apparent.

The other thing to notice is all the vegetation.  To be sure, the Canyon is a desert, but the amount and variety of plant-life is amazing.  Someone once gave me the best advice I've ever received about hiking in the desert and that is, "Every desert plant has a defense mechanism.  It is your job to know what it is and act accordingly."  Before our Grand Canyon adventure is over, we will have many scars on our legs, arms and faces.   Lessons not well learned...
