At a point about 2.5 miles from Cottonwood, we come to the edge of Hance Canyon.  The plan is to leave our packs here, strap on daypacks, and head down into Hance.  Paul, Hal, and Marshall mark the spot that will signify success... if we make it back in one piece. 

Nighttime camp was originally scheduled to be somewhere on the Tonto Mesa - where we are now - but the more I thought about what this day's 'fun session' would do to our bodies, and the prospect of hiking all the way to the Rim the next day, the more logical a change in plan became...
