Ok, I know, you are wondering just how a nudist camp figures into the hike itinerary... I'll get to that in a minute.  But first some preliminary drivel...

We ate breakfast in camp,  loaded our gear into one of the shuttle vehicles and retraced our route of the previous night back to I-8, Jacumba, CA exit.  The beginning of Carrizo Gorge is hard to peg exactly, but it is somewhere near where Carrizo Creek crosses I-8.  The canyon and the creek peter out to nothing just south of I-8.  Jerry Schad's book of San Diego County hikes suggests parking on the access road just as it crosses under I-8.  However, the vehicle would be unprotected at a spot near the Mexican border and on a known drug smuggling / illegal alien route into the US.  Not smart.

Sooooooo, we decided to continue along the access road to the gates of San Diego's very own (color me proud to be a San Diegan) nudist camp!... Hence the sign pictured above.   Bold as beans, we rang the bell, discussed our plight with a friendly sounding girl and, poof-magic, the gates swung open to admit the camp's newest inhabitants... us.   We were directed to follow the road to the main office where we would be escorted to a parking area nearest Carrizo Creek.  The fearless band of five was secretly hoping that friendly girl behind the gate speaker would show up in the all-together and be our "escort."

Bzzzzzzzzzz, thank you for playing.  Next contestant, please...
