Now down in the Gorge itself, we immediately encounter an almost continuous boulder field with a pretty good amount of water running along it's central spine.  Walking in the bottom would have been a cold, wet experience.  However, traversing on either wall for any distance was impossible.  We quickly fell into a rhythm of crisscrossing the creek, walking along the bank until an insurmountable obstacle was encountered, then finding a convenient place to cross again.  Got pretty good at this method of transportation after a while, too.  Inevitably, the care with which we tested our footing before each step soon gave way to the "banzai hiking technique"  Every artifice or method available to us was used - knees, elbows, poles, scramble, jump, crawl, slide - to make progress.... After all, this was a five star hike... (Mental note: Investigate meaning of "five stars" before going on next outing)
