This sorry looking soul is... me. My excuses are:
Most of the crew had explored this abandoned RR construction site the night before. Serge and I stayed in camp to soak up the last rays of the evening sun instead. I think it was Andrew that yelled back to us that they found numerous unidentifiable artifacts. Neither Serge or I believed him. Thought it was just a rouse to get us up off our collective duffs. ...But no, he spoke truth. The turn-of-the-century artifacts were numerous AND unidentifiable. Most of the stuff looked like it was from Mars. Worst of all, we couldn't even figure out what the concrete emplacements were used for. Speculation had it that they could be forges, a base for a tower for running things up to the construction site 800ft above, or an engine mount. Any RR engineers out there? Send your cards and letters identifying the concrete structure to me gary@stowell.org. Win a prize for the right answer... of course, how would we know? |
