If you refer back to picture #8, this is the same tank car - the one at track level.  The second tank car is on top of the cliff to the right.  We decided the platform on top of the tank car made a great picnic spot as it offered a great vantage point from which to admire the trestle and surrounding canyons.

Another way for the casual hiker to get to Goat Canyon trestle is to walk along the tracks.  It is about an 8mi trek from Mortero Wash along the tracks southward to this point.  From I-8 at the Nudist camp, it is only slightly shorter or some 7mi's.  We saw a number of mountain bikers make the journey from I-8 as well as a few day hikers.  The bike trip sounds kind of fun.  The track bed makes a good quality trail with few obstacles and gentile grade.
