| Over lunch on the tank car, we discussed the best way back down into
Carrizo Gorge. Some of us felt that going directly down Goat Canyon was best as it
offered the most gradual slope. Another faction speculated there could be an unseen
obstruction toward the foot of Goat Canyon before it connected with Carrizo Gorge.
We finally agreed to take the steeper high 'road' down. At first I thought we were
going down the ridge pictured here extending from the left (in shadows). And that's
why I took this picture from the walkway at the end of the trestle. Even though we
ultimately took a parallel ridge about 1/3mi to the right of this photo, I couldn't pitch
the shot. The desert this day was crystal clear with inviting blue sky. What
a great day it was. Goat Canyon trestle is located at mile 6.75 (near CG7 on the map). |
