Just past the Cholla "garden" (yes, that's what they are called... not what I'd call them, though), we filled our water bottles from Carrizo Creek and began our assent to the RR tracks.  In this photo, we had climbed onto what was a century-old construction road leading from a camp below, up to a pair of RR tunnels (the construction site).  Our objective was to come up out of the Gorge at the entrance to a half-mile-long tunnel, go through the tunnel, then through a second, short tunnel that emptied onto the spectacular Goat Canyon trestle.

Almost exactly at mile 6 (CG6 on the map) we made our move.  And just like clockwork, we came out exactly at our objective.  Now, don't get slapp'n them high fives too vigorously, though.  This isn't an example of superior orienteering, but rather a triumph of technology... You see, we cheated... and consulted the GPS, just like the pioneers did.

Isn't this a great picture, though?
