| One had to wonder how long it took and how many lives were given to build
the series of tunnels, trestles, and bridges which usher the rail lines across the desert.
Andrew and Libbi are about half way around and... Oh, what is this... Could it be a
travelers' aid call box. I can just picture the operator on the other end, "this is
Southern Pacific engineer #666. We have a slight problem. Some knuckle heads in camouflage
gear are strapping satchel charges to the Goat Canyon trestle main stays and my train is
stalled amid-span. How about calling in the Marines. What's that you say... They are the
