Goat Canyon Trestle

After descending into Goat Canyon for about a mile, rounding numerous turns in the ever deepening gulch, the trestle becomes suddenly visible. Libbi, our first time adventurer on this hike, didn't even notice we had almost reached our objective, occupying herself instead with the task of finding a way down the valley ahead. At this view point, there is a precipitous drop-off which can't be taken directly without safety equipment. The trick is to climb one of the bounding walls, sidle along for a few yards, then work your way down through heavy scree back into the central trough.

We have now been hiking for about 4 hours and the reward is more than worth the investment we've made. In a quarter mile or so we'll be on the trestle, eating lunch and contemplating how the damn thing was built.
