Tunnel to Nowhere

Ok kids, what is this? Would you believe this is the tunnel the train track was supposed to connect through? Seems they had a bit of an engineering problem with the original route. Unstable rock made it impossible to drill a tunnel through the mountainside which would have obviated the need for a large trestle. Crews evidently began drilling the tunnel from both sides of the mountain but cave-ins must have halted the enterprise. The existing trestle was built as the centerpiece of plan B to get past this difficult terrain.
