Basic Hike Description

 
Eagle Crest Mine Loop & Samuelson's rocks
bulletLocation:  25mi's NE of Palm Springs, CA.  Trailheads accessible by street vehicle and are on paved roads.
bulletFeatures:  Eagle Crest Mine - Miner's dwelling, rock scrambling, several mine shafts, mining artifacts, no water.  Samuelson's Rocks - Knowledge of a lifetime inscribed on 8 stone tablets, well head discovery, early settler artifacts.
bulletStats:  Eagle Crest Mine - Loop day hike, 8mi's, no water, 6hrs.  Samueslon's Rocks - Out and back hike, easy 2mi walk, 3hrs (takes that long to find all the stone tablets)
bulletComments:  The Eagle Crest Mine loop is a nice day hike with many points of interest along the way.  The miner's dwelling is hard to find but a rewarding goal.  Samuelson's Rocks are a unique feature.  Interpreting the meanings carved into the stone tablets will tax your logical skills and knowledge of history. 
 
  
Rock Climbing in Joshua Tree NP

bulletFeatures:  Technical rock climbing (equipment necessary)
bulletStats:  Joshua Tree is rock climbers heaven.  All levels of rock climbing are available.
bulletComments:  This is perhaps my favorite day hike in all of the SD area.  It is moderately strenuous but worth the effort.  That's why there are several travelogues on the same hike.  Each assault had a different twist, taking in some of the optional features listed above.  Recommend at least glancing through all three travelogues.  HIKE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
