
Gary and I toured
Hoover Dam. The whole thing is impressive inside and out. As I recall, it is about 750 ft
tall. No, the rumors about workers being entombed in the concrete when they died on the
job are NOT true, at least according to our guide.
Construction pictures of getting the first span across the river were
pretty spectacular. Workers had rigged a cable car between opposite shores that was
perhaps 1000 ft above the gorge below.
We went through the generator room which was almost antiseptic it was so
clean. However, you could feel the power being generated. The whole dam structure hummed
with electricity being made. Unfortunately, much of the power output is wasted on Las
Vegas lights and not on useful things such as computers...
