The up-and-over return team still had their cameras
rolling. This picture was taken on the return trip near the top of
the mountain. It captures a cholla garden, a plant that every hiker
learns to respect. They may look fuzzy, but that fuzz is really a
needle-sharp set of spines that pierce anything they touch. And the
spines are very hard to remove because they have backward-facing barbs to
prevent removal.
