Goat Canyon

We're finally at the top and about to drop into the beginning of Goat Canyon.  We are about half way to our objective or 1.5mi's in.

This Cholla garden is typical in Borrego.  Some call it jumping Cholla as the furry balls seem to get magically stuck in boot, cloths and skin alike.  A simple hair comb is the best instrument for removing these pesky bits of vegetation.  But be careful, the spines are not only sharp but have microscopic backward facing barbs that don't disengage easily.  Sometimes it takes two people, one on each end of the comb to pull out the offending material.  Note also the Agave (foreground), and Barrel Cactus (under my leg).
