| Susan and Julio opted to walk the tracks back to Mortero
wash. Jeff and I retraced our original steps back up Goat Canyon and
down Mortero Palm Canyon. The rendezvous point was to be where the
Mortero Wash jeep trail crosses the tracks. Susan took this picture
of the trestle as they traveled northward along the track. Goat
Canyon is the deep cut behind the trestle. You can pick out the
v-shaped drop-off precipice about a third of the way up-canyon and the
scree field of loose rocks between the drop-off and the trestle.
From this angle, it is clear why the trestle doesn't come into view when
hiking down Goat Canyon until the very end. The canyon doesn't open
up until after the "V".
Isn't this a great shot!?
