At about the 0.4mi mark up Mortero Palm Canyon we come to a dense palm grove.  There are perhaps 20 or so large palms packed together competing for moisture from an underground spring.  Susan and Jeff are climbing out of the grove to the left on the rock scrambling route up the canyon.  The alternative to the right leads to a water chute that is also climbable when not filled with rushing water (summer and winter months).
