Susan is contouring along the rocky slope above the palm grove toward the main canyon.  There is no need to go straight up the slope and over the top as this only wastes energy coming down the other side.  Stay low over the palm grove (out of the picture to the left) and you will eventually rejoin Mortero Palm Canyon and an easier route than the one pictured here.
