Day 3 was our "bonus credit" off-trail day.  After some debate and comparing notes with others we met on the trail about the best way to get started, it was decided that we would attack the left side of the wall behind Soldier Lake.  Marshall picks his way up the rock-strewn beginning of the climb.  Beyond this hill lies Miter Basin.  Reports from others who have been there were positive on scenic beauty but less clear about the climb out through Crabtree Pass at the end of Miter Basin.

It turns out that we were not the first to choose this particular point to begin the assault on Miter Basin.  There was a fairly clear trail-of-use where Marshall is standing that lead all the way to the top.  Beyond that, we were on our own.
