Team photo at the top of the wall behind Soldier Lake.  This was our first view up Miter Basin and what a spectacular view it was.  The white granite mountains that surround the basin against the blue sky were pretty awe inspiring.  At this point (operative phrase being "at this point") we were jazzed at the decision to take the off-trail route to the foot of Whitney verses the less scenic trail that circumnavigates the mountains on the left.

From left to right: Paul Okolish, Tom Boldt, Hal Lonas, Marshall Stowell, Gary Stowell, and John DeAguiar.  Once again Kurt Kremer volunteered to be photographer... something about having enough pictures of himself hanging in Post Offices.

It was also about here that Kert demonstrated his awesome skill in map reading and orienteering.  After looking up Miter Basin for the first time he said.  "You'd have to be an idiot to hike up there (pointing to the exact route we would take)... Ok, wait a minute, the map's upside-down... Never mind."
