| Finally, "victory" at the top of Crabtree Pass
(12,600 ft.). The view past Tom, Marshall, John and Paul is onward
toward an unnamed lake, down the other side of Crabtree Pass. Once
again, our lot was to climb a high pass only to descend again to about the
same altitude as where we started.
It was about this time that Kurt again took lead and called in his report via radio. "I just took a ride down the mountain on a boulder. I rate this descent as VERY dangerous." Just great, we all thought. Sure glad this climb is "easy, just a walk in the park, really." (Note: We took a couple of Motorola Family Band 2 mile radios with us. They were very effective at keeping the group in contact and providing guidance from point man to the rest of the team.) |
