Same photo as before except it is now about 9:30AM and we are on the spur trail to Whitney summit.  Once again, see how the terrain surrounding Guitar Lake looks smooth and only gently rolling?  Just for reference, the two lakes are almost 1,000 ft different in altitude.  That smooth-looking terrain is really a dense population of boulders that is nearly impossible to penetrate without climbing gear.
